April 2017 increases to National Minimum Wage and other statutory rates

On 1 April 2017, national minimum wage rates will increase as follows:

Apprentices £3.40 £3.50
Age 16 – 17 £4.00 £4.05
Age 18 – 20 £5.55 £5.60
Age 21+ £6.95 £7.05
National Living Wage (Age 25+) £7.20 £7.50
  • SMP

The weekly rate of statutory maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental pay will increase from £139.58 to £140.98 in respect of pay weeks commencing on or after 2 April 2017.

  • SSP

From 6 April the weekly rate of statutory sick pay will increase from £88.45 to £89.35.

  • SRP 

From 6 April 2017 the cap on the weekly pay used to calculate statutory redundancy payments will increase from £479 to £489.

  • Immigration levy 

From 6 April 2017, employers sponsoring skilled workers under a tier 2 visa will have to pay a levy of £1,000 (£364 for small employers and charities) per certificate.
