Tighter Rules for Employing Skilled Foreign Workers

The Government plans to make it harder for skilled workers to take jobs in the UK. From 2010 employers can only look for skilled staff outside Europe once vacancies have been advertised in job centres for a minimum of 4 weeks. Furthermore, to be allowed to transfer to a UK division of an overseas company the skilled workers must have worked for a minimum of one year for that company. Finally, the minimum salary required for a worker to qualify as a skilled worker will rise to £20,000.
